A bit more on the beginner’s group...

Ashtanga yoga is a method for clarifying your awareness. The emphasis in the beginner’s group is to provide a dedicated space to correctly learn the internal practice of tristhana, the core of the method, and to start a fire burning for the self-healing internal practice that is ashtanga. My objective is to work with practitioners (new and seasoned) who have a genuine interest in the subtle realms of self-study and self-healing.

The goal of this course is to give you the knowledge and skills to begin (or revisit the internal foundations of) a safe, accessible ashtanga yoga practice. There are no physical requirements for participation, but there is some mental discipline required to actually do the practice.

Tristhana (breath-bandha-drishti) is a mind training technique. Its essence is to stabilize the mind and the emotions with a specific meditation technique that you practice each day with consistency. By the end of our course, you will have a solid experiential understanding of the inner practice and how to apply it to a physical practice. The physical practice will be brief in the beginning, and will grow as your ability to stabilize the mind grows. The goal is to give you the information and context to experience yoga deeply and with integrity, and to continue to develop your practice with our dedicated practice group, if you like. We will also emphasize safety protocols, and how to incorporate the opening and closing rituals to amplify the benefits of the practice.
