A focused monthlong cohort to establish the energetics of ashtanga yoga in your life.
We will begin with a two hour workshop on Monday, July 7 from 6-8pm. We'll start with a bit of conceptual thinking, to give us a broad framework in which to situate the embodied, direct experience method of ashtanga yoga. Then we'll learn the three-part subtle body meditation technique that defines ashtanga known as trishtana (breath-bandha-drishti), and put the meditation technique to the movements of the surya namaskar and a few seated postures. We'll talk about how the Mysore room, as the practice space is called in our method, works, and there will be plenty of time for questions and comments as we go.
We will then practice together for the month of July from Monday-Friday at 7:30am in the Mysore room. We will learn the asanas (postures) of the primary series deliberately and with great attention to the inner method of trishtana, building our capacity to concentrate and clarify our awareness.
All are welcome to join, most especially total beginners. There are no physical requirements for participation, but there is some mental discipline required to actually do the practice. The goal of this course is to give you the knowledge and skills to begin (or revisit the internal foundations of) a safe, accessible ashtanga yoga practice.
